David Wellington – O – 1962 Steam Shed
This is a finescale layout depicting a Tyneside sub-shed during the steam/diesel change-over years. In 1962 Hollobeck Shed used to serve a brewery north of the river. Now the beer goes by road but the shed has been commandeered by BR as temporary cover for Percy Main depot, which suffered a fire at this time… The scenario is ficticious of course but provides an opportunity to showcase a fleet of unglamorous and dirty locos applicable to the period, plus some more glamorous types on running-in turns after overhaul.
Locos depicted include no less than 3 x Piercy J27s plus Q6/WD/V3/J72/J94/K1/B1/J21/9F/K3/Ivatt 4 plus diesels 08/03/25/27/37.Mostly kit-built with some classes duplicated to add authenticity.
A 2-road depot is modelled, together with a working turntable, sheer legs, mess hut, coal stage and of course, the large brewery that hides the fiddle yard.
