Dave Bush – HOe – Austrian Narrow Gauge
Each time I plan a new layout, the intention is for it to fit in a car, but each time I end up needing a Transit to move it. Each layout has also attracted the same comments; ‘it must have taken a long time to build’, ‘it must have cost a lot of money’ and ‘why do you make the viewing height too tall for children?’
Well, Nebenbahn does fit in my car, I built it over a period of four weekends, it only stands three feet off the floor and it was constructed to a strict budget. I must admit that I did have most of the rolling stock already, which is a bit of a cheat.
The electrics are as simple as it can be, two wires from the controller and jumpers between the boards, no switches, no point motors and at 7’ x 3’ it will fit in that spare box room. It’s as child friendly as I could make it or to put it another way, it’s as Dad-friendly as I could make it!
