Welcome to Myton
It’s a lovely summer morning, the birds are singing and the next train of the day will soon arrive. Myton represents one of hundreds of small railway backwaters serving the local population before road transport took over and life changed forever.
A sequence of trains is run, rather than a timetable. This is more relaxing for us and gives time for interaction with our public. You will see examples of passenger,goods and parcels trains typical of the era when the railways carried almost all of a community’s needs.
The layout is run with a shunting loco. This would not normally be the case, the branch would be worked on the “one engine in steam” system but that would be boring for spectator and operator alike, with long periods of inactivity.
Various scenic cameo’s have been created to represent relaxed country life before mass private cars, health and safety and the “PC” age. School children run for the bus in the station yard whilst others take the train. A porter takes time out with the station cat, groups going to “town” chat whilst waiting for the train.
